Lap Band in Mexico by Dr. Lopez Corvala
Debbie Clanton, Fayetteville, GA
I have tried everything to lose weight, but unsuccessful in every attempt. My father shared my irritation and asked me to research Lap Band. Through Google searches, I started getting more and more information.
I found a seminar near Atlanta where my father and I could meet others that’d had successful Lap Band surgery. After the seminar, we each put our paperwork together for our insurance companies: My father was approved, but I was denied.
In sharing my disappointment with my cousin, he told me of a co-worker who’d had successful Lap Band surgery in Mexico. I was not interested in leaving America for surgery, but my father urged me to check it out. I couldn’t afford to have the operation in the U.S. without insurance, so I needed a low cost option for Lap Band surgery.
As my research deepened, my inner voice confirmed, “This is a no-brainer!” I found World Med Assist, a company that specializes in medical tourism. They put me in touch with Dr. Lopez Corvala, a weight loss surgery expert, at Hospital Angeles in Tijuana, who confirmed I was a candidate for Lap Band after WorldMed Assist got him my medical history.
My sister-in-law decided to join me, so WorldMed Assist put arrangements in motion so we could go through everything together. My mother came along for support. With my father, sister-in-law and me, Lap Band has now become a “Family Affair.”
We flew from Atlanta to San Diego the morning of surgery. An English speaking driver from picked us up at the airport in a nice big van and drove us to Tijuana. It was so simple to cross the border, enjoying the sights along the way. After our arrival at the hospital (everything was beautiful and very clean!), we were met by Patient Coordinator Paulina, who put us at ease and got us moving in the right direction.
We were then taken for our blood workup, chest x-rays and EKGs. Back in our private rooms, Dr. Corvala reviewed the procedure and answered all our questions. He was very thorough, very kind and very caring. The anesthesiologist went over all the tests, what to expect, and our medical history. Within an hour we both were taken down to the surgical area and prepared for the surgery. The procedure was over in 45 minutes.
The morning after the surgery the doctor had ordered a Barium Swallow x-ray to be sure everything was working properly and teach me how the band worked. It was great to watch the small amount of fluid go through my stomach.
After we were discharged the next day, a driver took us back to San Diego, helped get our luggage into the hotel that WorldMed Assist had booked for us. Our driver was then kind enough to assist us with a grocery store run to stock up on liquids.
San Diego was great to stay for an extra couple days. We rented a car and enjoyed the absolute beauty of the area. I highly recommend to anyone that needs to change their life to go through with this procedure and to call World Med Assist to help with all the details. They are so thorough, helpful and caring. I trusted everything they did from start to finish.
Both my sister-in-law and I are very happy we had the lap band surgery. From the start of the pre-surgery diet through 8 days post-op, I have lost 13 pounds and am feeling great.
