The Procedure

Prior to treatment you will receive extensive pre-op testing consisting of an MRVenogram of the jugular and vertebral veins (the azygos vein will be examined during the procedure), blood test and neurological assessment. The actual CCSVI procedure will be done under Conscious Sedation, which means you will be able to respond to verbal commands but have an altered level of consciousness and will not feel pain.
In a few cases, patients may require general anesthesia if deemed medically necessary. Unlike at most other hospitals, veins treated will be the azygos, both internal jugular veins and the vertebral veins. After your procedure, you generally will stay for 6-8 hours for close observation and will stay at the hospital for a few more days. After hospital discharge, you should restrain from strenuous activities and lifting for 2-3 days. You will need to stay at a hotel for another 5-7 days for follow up appointments with the doctor.
